Nyungnay

Retreat

13 & 14 April

Join us for this special purification retreat

Engaging in this retreat is very powerful for purifying negative karma and pacifying strong delusions such as desirous attachment and hatred. It is also a special method for receiving the blessings of Buddha and improving our love, compassion, and bodhichitta (the wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all).

Usually, this practice is done over two days, with the Mahayana precepts being taken at the beginning of each day. On the first day, before taking the Mahayana precepts, there will be an introduction to the Nyungnay practice. On both days, having taken the precepts, we engage in three sessions, combining prostrations with chanted meditation.

On the first day, it is customary to abstain from all meals apart from lunch. On the second day, we engage in a complete fast, abstaining from all food and drink for 24 hours. Those who are unable to engage in a complete fast can participate in the sessions on the second day, provided they take the Mahayana precepts on that day.

What to Expect

Expect lots of prostrations.  But don’t worry if you aren’t able to make physical prostrations.  Prostration is as much a mental action as a physical action so you don’t need a fit body to engage in Nyungnay.

To participate in the Nyungnay sessions we should take and keep Precepts each morning.  For more information about Precepts click this link:  https://kadampa.org/buddhism/taking-precepts

You can ask any specific questions when you attend any class or by emailing education@meditateinbrisbane.org

Everyone is welcome.
