We all want to feel good about ourselves. Suffering from a lack of self-confidence can adversely affect our daily life, our relationships and our spiritual development. However, self-confidence is not a quality that we either have or we don’t have. It is a state of mind that can be cultivated.

In this workshop with guest teacher Gen Kelsang Tsalden, we’ll learn ways of relating to ourself which give rise to authentic self-confidence. This will empower us in all our activities and will give us the inner confidence to develop our good qualities and enjoy a positive mind. In this way we begin to be the confident, joyful, loving person we truly wish to be.

Everyone wants to be happy and free from suffering. However, try as we might, happiness remains elusive while suffering and problems seem to come naturally. This is because we don’t understand where real happiness and freedom from suffering are to be found.

Buddha taught that all the happiness there is in this world arises from wishing others to be happy, and all the suffering there is in this world arises from wishing ourself to be happy. By understanding and practicing Buddha’s teachings on love, many of our usual problems and anxieties will fall away. In their place we will come to experience a pure and lasting happiness which cannot be disturbed by changing circumstances. Free from selfish concern, we will then be able to help our friends and loved ones in the most appropriate and beneficial ways.

Retreat Topics and Dates

16 – 18 Jun: Eight Steps to Happiness
Fill your heart with positive thoughts, good intentions, and Buddhist wisdom. By following a series of step by step meditations this retreat gives you the opportunity to connect with your own potential for inner peace and happiness and equips you with special practical methods for keeping a happy and positive mind.

The focus of the retreat will be one of Buddhism’s best loved teachings ‘Eight Verses of Training the Mind’ by the famous Buddhist meditator Geshe Langri Tangpa. These eight verses reveal powerful meditations that awaken our potential for loving kindness, compassion, and wisdom.

14 – 16 Jul: The Art of Forgiveness
It is impossible to go through life without feeling harmed or insulted by others, but it is possible to move on from past hurt, to overcome feelings of anger and resentment and to free ourself from emotional pain.

Developing the art of forgiveness enables us to let go and move on with our life. With this practical wisdom we gain clarity and insight into our problems and are able to let go of painful emotions and unhelpful ways of thinking. Through applying these understandings in daily life we can learn to heal our heart, restore harmony to our relationships, make peace with the past, and finally enjoy real mental freedom.

25 – 27 Aug: Finding Peace of Mind
Discover your potential for lasting peace of mind and happiness. Through meditation we can develop and maintain a peaceful mind all the time. If our mind is peaceful all the time, we will be happy all the time. If we really wish for ourself and others to be happy all the time we must learn to practice meditation and awaken our potential for real peace and happiness.
