Nyungnay Purification Practice Retreat

Engaging in this retreat is very powerful for purifying negative karma and pacifying strong delusions such as desirous attachment and hatred. It is also a special method for receiving the blessings of Buddha and improving our love, compassion, and bodhichitta (the wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all).

Usually, this practice is done over two days, with the Mahayana precepts being taken at the beginning of each day. On the first day, before taking the Mahayana precepts, there will be an introduction to the Nyungnay practice. On both days, having taken the precepts, we engage in three sessions, combining prostrations with chanted meditation.

On the first day, it is customary to abstain from all meals apart from lunch. On the second day, we engage in a complete fast, abstaining from all food and drink for 24 hours. Those who are unable to engage in a complete fast can participate in the sessions on the second day, provided they take the Mahayana precepts on that day.

Retreat Topic: Love Without Pain

Love can give rise to great happiness but all too often it seems to lead to pain and suffering. This is because we fail to understand the difference between love and attachment. Love is the source of happiness whereas the pain and sorrow in our relationships arises from our attachment.

In this retreat, Gen Kelsang Ani will explain how we can approach our love for our partner, family and friends from a fresh, new perspective by learning how to discriminate clearly between love and attachment. In this way our relationships will become more harmonious, joyful and long-lasting, and function to draw us closer to a state of pure and lasting happiness.
