About Foundation Program

The Foundation Program provides an opportunity to deepen our understanding and experience of Buddhism through a systematic study of six texts – Joyful Path of Good Fortune, Universal Compassion, The New Eight Steps to Happiness, The New Heart of Wisdom, Meaningful to Behold and How to Understand the Mind.

The Foundation Program is an enrolled program where we make a commitment to attend each class within a study section and we maintain our Centre Membership for the whole duration of our study commitment.

Through this in-depth study program we gain the ability to put all of Buddha’s teachings of Sutra and Tantra into practice and we can easily make progress on, and complete, the stages of the path to the supreme happiness of enlightenment.

Join any time.  On Thursday 27 August we start the study of Joyful Path of Good Fortune – the path to the supreme happiness of Enlightenment.  This is a great time to join!

About Joyful Path of Good Fortune

The Path to Supreme Happiness of Enlightenment

We all have the potential for self-transformation, and a limitless capacity for the growth of good qualities, but to fulfil this potential we need to know what to do at every stage of our spiritual journey.

This book offers a detailed explanation of the entire path to enlightenment with the teachings of Buddha laid out step-by-step making them very easy for the modern reader to put into practice.

Through our study of Joyful Path of Good Fortune, we gain the ability to put all Buddha’s teachings of both Sutra and Tantra into practice.  We can easily make progress on, and complete, the stages of the path to the supreme happiness of enlightenment.  From a practical point of view, Lamrim is the main body of Buddha’s teachings, and the other teachings are like its limbs.

How does Foundation Program differ from our weekly General Program classes?

  1. Foundation Program is an enrolled program with the commitments listed above.  General Program classes are on a drop-in basis with no commitments.
  2. Foundation Program includes preparatory and dedication prayers.  General Program only includes the Liberating Prayer.
  3. Foundation Program includes paired discussion at every class.  General Program doesn’t include formal discussion but their is an opportunity to chat over refreshments at the end of class.
  4. Foundation Program includes group discussion approximately every 5-6 classes.  Discussion is lead by two students on rotation.  There is no group discussion in General Program.
  5. Foundation Program includes an exam at the end of each study commitment.  There are no exams in General Program.
  6. In Foundation Program each book is read in it’s entirety and commentary provided.  In General Program the classes are arranged in topics and the teacher will read relevant sections from any of Venerable Geshe-la’s books.
